Can revenge improve your life?
I think that most people have the one or the other enemy out there, people they have clashed with at some point, or outright just don’t like. For some, it goes a little further, and seeking revenge for being wronged can almost take over our lives. We think up scenarios in our heads how to pay the culprits back, how we will be on top this time and the other person will feel bad for a very long time.
However, what we miss in our seeking for revenge is that we are missing out on our own lives. We spend time and energy on revenge, and feel miserable the rest of the time, obsessing over what the other party may do or how they may feel. To be honest, most of the time (unless you are in high school), the other party is completely oblivious and probably lives a happy life, sorry to break the news. So not only do we feel wronged by the other party for whatever deed or argument happened in the past, but we also waste our lives re-living these moments over and over again.
So what is the solution? A wise friend once said: The best revenge is a life well lived. Even though it may be hard at first: get over it. Forget the past and focus on the present, because now it is in our hands to build a prosperous future; and this future will not happen when we continue living in the past. I truly believe that Karma is a bitch, and sooner or later everyone will be paid back. So let’s focus on our life, be happy, and see what wonderful opportunities are awaiting us. Once Karma has showed her face, it might just be us who come out on top, and I know what I am talking about!!
Yes, you are so right. I have found it so hard to put my past behind me and move on, but you must and you must also realize the statement “you reap what you sow” is soo true. Karma, or whatever you want to call it, will come back for you and for the people who have hurt you and others. Don’t worry for them, for they will get theirs. What comes around goes around. People think they can do bad things, evil and get away with it, when the joke is really on them. One way or another, someday, somehow, they will be stricken down and then wonder to themselves, what did I do to deserve this? And then they will remember you and how they hurt you or how they hurt the world. Another good quote about revenge: The man who seeks revenge should remember to dig two graves. Because remember you are only doing yourself in too if you seek revenge on others, no matter how badly you want them to pay for what they have done to you, do not act on it or you will be hurt too. It’s not worth it, rise above it and live above the influence, live above the evil that surrounds us. Walk away a better person.
Dear Manda:
Thank you very much for your input. In general I believe that people should live with the purpose to treat everyone the way they want to be treated. If you were mal-treated you must rise above the first impulse of seeking revenge. In the end, everyone will get what s/he deserves. Period. I honestly and truly believe in that credo. Do I always do things right? Definitely not, since I am only human and far from perfect. But I try every day to be the best person I can in order to be a good example for my daughter and others. Preaching one way and living another is hypocracy, and sooner or later or deeds will catch up with everyone of us.
